Welcome to the Web site of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at John Stroger Hospital of Cook County!
Stroger Hospital is part of the Cook County Bureau of Health Services, the largest component of the safety net for health care in Chicago and suburban Cook County. The hospital is located in the Illinois Medical District on Chicago's Near West Side, adjacent to Rush Medical College. Cook County and Rush are academic partners in medical education and research.
The Divisions of Pulmonary/Critical Care have more than doubled their outpatient activity, greatly expanding availability and timeliness of consultations for asthma, sleep disorders, occupational lung diseases, and general pulmonary disorders. The volume of inpatient pulmonary consultations now requires 2 fully staffed consult teams (attendings, fellows, residents and students) and the MICU consult team continues to provide exceptional, timely service "24-7" to all areas of the hospital. Volumes of procedures (bronchoscopy, etc), physiology (PFT) studies, cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation requests, and sleep services continue to grow at a rapid pace. Managed together with Infectious Diseases, the division's tuberculosis programs are models for the city and beyond.
The MICU continues to provide state-of-the-art care to the sickest patients in the Bureau, despite increasing numbers of admissions and logistical challenges created by the inadequate number of medical-surgical beds in the new hospital.
We offer a three year combined fellowship program of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine. Our program consists of six fellows, two fellows per year.
