The Primary Care Project
 
The Primary Care Project is a scholarly and/or community-based project that enables residents to explore the fields of public health, medical education and research. Residents can involve themselves in a research project during a four-week research rotation at Stroger or Rush hospitals. Residents are paired with a mentor who has expertise in the content area of the project.

Sample projects include:

  1. Latina Health Beliefs around Chemoprevention for Breast Cancer.

  2. The Needs of HIV Positive Women from Africa.

  3. The Prevalence of Homelessness Among Inpatients in a Large Public Hospital.

  4. Retrospective Review of Patients Presenting to the ED With Chest Pain at a Community Hospital in an Underserved Community.

  5. Teenage Pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

  6. When was Your Last Mammogram? Barriers to obtaining Mammograms in African American Women.

  7. Detection of Gonorrhea and Chlamydia in Two High School clinics Using the Standard Probe vs. Chain Reaction.

  8. The Prevalence of Hepatitis C in the Homeless.

  9. Healthy Eating on a Budget: A Cookbook for People With Diabetes and Their Families.

  10. Knowledge, Attitudes and Beliefs of Urban Men Living with Diabetes.

  11. Sleep Apnea and Liver Function Abnormalities in Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery.

  12. Do(ing) "We Care": Stimulated Feedback from Patients at a Public Hospital Walk-In Clinic.

  13. Why Walk-In? Better Understanding Reasons for Visits in a Large, Urban Public Hospital Ambulatory Clinic.
