1. Do you accept IMGs?
Yes.

2. Is U.S. clinical experience a requirement?
No, we don’t require U.S. clinical experience.

3. What type of visas do we sponsor?
We sponsor J-1 and H-1b visas.

4. Are we exempt from the H-1b cap?
Last year the vast majority of the H-1b visas we sponsored were exempted from the cap. We don’t foresee any changes this year.

5. What is the deadline to complete step III?
March 1, 2008

6. What is the graduation date cut off? Is this flexible or firm?
Completion of training at the medical school/residency level in the last five years is ideal.

7. Do we have a deadline for application submission?
January 1, 2008

8. Do we offer externships or observerships?
No, these are not available at our institution.

9. Can an application be sent with only a step I score?
Yes.

10. Are pre match positions being offered for 2007?
We prefer to fill as many positions as possible through the match, but we have found that offering pre match positions has enabled selected physicians to obtain a license and visa in a more timely fashion. Therefore, we will continue to offer some pre match positions this year.

11. How many recommendation letters are required?
Four

12. What university affiliation does the hospital have?
Rush Medical College is the primary academic affiliate of John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital’s (JSH) Department of Medicine. Faculty appointments, combined residency and fellowship programs and joint research efforts are numerous. Students from Rush Medical College rotate through the inpatient wards for their M3 core Internal Medicine clerkships and M4 sub internship. Students also rotate through other electives at the hospital.

13. What research opportunities are there for residents?
The Collaborative Research Unit in the Department of Medicine oversees many specific projects that involve improving the care of the medically underserved of Chicago. Residents can also participate in basic science research with the Rush Medical College faculty. Many JSH residents are also actively involved with JSH faculty in clinical research projects.

14. What fellowship opportunities exist for CCH residents?
JSH sponsors fellowships in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology-Oncology, General Medicine, Toxicology, and Pulmonary Critical Care. JSH and Rush Medical College jointly sponsor Fellowships in Endocrine, and Infectious Diseases. JSH faculty play key roles in the Rheumatology fellowship sponsored by Rush. The JSH Nephrology faculty play are vital in the University of Illinois at Chicago Nephrology Fellowship. In addition, JSH residents have an excellent record obtaining fellowships nationwide.

15. Is the residency accredited?
Program was fully accredited by the ACGME for the maximum 5 years in 2007

16. What is your Board Passage Rate?
Our residents do very well on their Boards. Our average Board passage rate for the last three years is 93%. For more information, please see: http://www.abim.org/resources/states/index.shtm

17. How do I apply to your residency?
We only accept applications via ERAS, the Electronic Residency Application Service.
