PROTECTING SUBJECTS
 
Expectations about the ethical treatment of living beings involved in research -- whether human or not -- place a burden on researchers which must be taken seriously. In addition to understanding the ethical principles underlying research subject protection, investigators must know about and follow an elaborate set of rules and regulations.

For research with human subjects, these expectations are summarized in the "Guidelines for Research Investigators".
