Project Title: Chlorhexidine cleansing of medical intensive care unit patients
Project PI: S Bleasdale
Co-investigators: I Gonzalez, M Hayden, W Trick, R Weinstein.
Description: Comparison of chlorhexidine gluconate cleansing to soap and water baths to decontaminate the skin and prevent bloodstream infections among medical intensive care unit patients. The primary outcome is the bloodstream infection rate. All patients in one unit will receive a soap and water bath; all patients in the other unit will receive cleansing with the chlorhexidine cloth.
