Completed Research Projects  :: Antibiotic Resistance

Project Title: Survey of internal medicine physicians’ knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about antibiotic resistance.
Project PI: Bill Wester
Co-investigators: Lakshmi Durairaj, Shahid Husain, David Schwartz, Enrique Martinez. Department of Medicine, Cook County Hospital & Rush Medical College, as part of the CCH Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Research Faculty Development Program.
Description: Antibiotic resistance is an important problem that has been difficult to address. In order to design more effective strategies to combat antibiotic resistance, it will be important to better understand physicians’ perceptions of the problem since solutions will certainly involve changing physician behavior. This survey of internal medicine physicians at four hospitals in Chicago assessed their knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes about the magnitude of the problem, its causes, and potential interventions.
