Project Title: Randomized trial comparing the effectiveness of azithromycin to vitamin C for treating acute bronchitis.
Project PI: Arthur Evans MD, MPH
Co-investigators: L Durairaj, S Husain, M Charles-Damte, Y Wang, L Sadowski. Department of Medicine, Cook County Hospital & Rush Medical College.
Description: The value of antibiotics in acute bronchitis is disputed by most experts although scientific evidence is conflicting. This randomized blinded trial compared azithromycin, the most promising antibiotic, with low-dose vitamin C and measured improvements in health status and how quickly patients returned to their usual daily activities.
