Completed Research Projects  :: Asthma

Project Title: Clinical characteristics of high-risk urban patients with severe asthma and predictors of adherence to asthma clinic appointment.
Project PI: JJ Shannon
Co-investigators: R Abrams, R Bartt, PD Hart, C Kallal, M Lemon, G Schiff, A Evans. Department of Medicine, Cook County Hospital & Rush Medical College, as part of the CCH Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Research Faculty Development Program.
Description: Urban poor in the United States have substantially higher morbidity and mortality from asthma. Many asthmatics view their illness as an episodic problem and do not feel compelled to enroll in self-assessment, self-management educational programs provided in the asthma outpatient clinic. This cohort study assessed predictors of adherence to an asthma clinic appointment for patients admitted to the hospital or emergency department because of a severe asthma episode.
