Biosketch: Arthur Evans joined Cook County Hospital in 1997. Previously, he had been a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for eleven years. He was reared in Texas, studied philosophy at Stanford, medicine at University of Texas at Galveston, internal medicine at Dartmouth, and epidemiology at University of North Carolina. After a two-year fellowship in clinical research at the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of North Carolina, he joined the UNC faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine and at the Cecil Sheps Center for Health Services Research. His teaching activities have included: Director of the UNC Medicine Clerkship, Associate Director of the RWJ Clinical Scholars Program at UNC, course director of Clinical Epidemiology at the UNC School of Public Health, Director of Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Research for both the UNC and Cook County Hospital Faculty Development Fellowship Programs. His research interests have included studies of chest pain and low back pain; advance directives; the peer review process; evidence based medicine; and epidemiological methods. He lives in Oak Park with his wife and daughter and commutes daily on the Blue Line. Activities include running, kayaking, and mountaineering.
